Wind Chimes

Wind chimes have existed since ancient times in many cultures. They were most often to be found in Bali, China, Japan, Tibet and South East Asia. Wind chimes were often elegantly decorated and sometimes carved in very fine detail depicting short stories. Buddhists in particular seemed to relish them and they have been used in their hundreds, even thousands, hanging outside their Temples, shrines and Pagodas.

Feng Shui has always taken a stand for the world of spirits, and the Chinese would rearrange furniture and their surroundings to attract positive life energy, they repeated this with their wind chimes. In China, wind chimes have also been used to scare away unsettled ghosts (also known as hungry ghosts). Some say that wind chimes can also attract ghosts, although this seems to be dependent on where they are hung.

Wind chimes have a very good way of calming the mind and soul. The vibrations of the chimes appear to block stress and unwanted emotional feelings. This can be a good healing process if you are feeling down or upset, they seem to reduce a lot of the anxiety that you may be feeling.

Wind chimes can be made from all different types of material. The most preferred method is to use copper or aluminum piping as this is inexpensive, creates a nicer sounding tone and is also easy on the eye. These materials deliver more of a sweet and subtle sound. I have found that harder metals give a harsher tone. Wind chimes can also be created out of wicker and bamboo, which may be carved or painted to add a more decorative look.

Wind chimes can be placed anywhere outside, hanging on trees in your front or back garden or maybe even outside your front porch. Some people hang them in certain positions near their house so that the chimes can be used as a warning sign for storms that are on their way. These instrumental marvels can also be used for detecting burglars and also deterring them as they are placed near the front door. The idea being that the lurking Burglar will become unnerved by having their entrance announced and will quickly run away fearing that the owners of the property are aware of them.

Wind chimes can be either bought or homemade, depending on whether you would like to customize them to your liking. Creating them yourself does take a lot of effort, as they need to be tuned to create a nice sound. If this is not achieved it may end up sounding very noisy and not calming at all. There are ways to tune your wind chimes though, you may have a friend who is perhaps a percussionist and knows about tuning or you could look it up on the Internet.

A villa is basically a house where a family can spend their time together. In Bali however, a villa is a breath of nature for the family, for first time honeymooners, or individuals who want to re-encounter the self being. Most villas in Bali take personal privacy into account, and this is at harmony with nature. The detailed concept of their respective architectures can be various, but privacy and luxury play an important role in the basic concept of many villas. Luxurious, sometimes superbly luxurious, the architecture of many villas in Bali is breathing in the rhythm of space that plays on the silence of the surrounds and fits effortlessly and discreetly into the small community.
