Located on the northeastern coast of Bali, just north of Padangbai lies the small village of Candidasa. A tranquil coastal area nestled between the Lombok Strait to the east and mountains to the west, Candidasa is within close proximity to many historical landmarks of Bali including Bali's mother temple, Pura Besakih, Tenganan (the aboriginal people of Bali) as well as the ferry terminal to Lombok. It's a quiet resort area with a beautiful outlook.

In the past Candidasa has been off the general tourist track even though it is  near Mt. Agung, is rich in culture and close to many popular dive spots. Some of the best diving and snorkeling areas in Bali are also within the Candidasa area. As Candidasa has become more popular with day-trippers, the demand for accommodations and eatery places has grown to wide selection that ranges from star rated properties to simple homestays. Everything is to the left when heading north (mountainside) or right of the main road with most hotels being on the right side - the beach side.

Accommodation is varied and reasonable with plenty of restaurants, a couple of which are outstanding. Candidasa is a great place to relax and snorkel, or used as a base to explore the area, including the exclusive community of Tenganan.

Dominated by the towering presence of Mt Agung, the island’s highest and most sacred volcano, which last erupted to terrible effect in 1963, this area of contrasts has much lower population density than southern Bali. Candidasa has some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery in Bali, from lush green rice terraces to rugged escarpments rising almost vertically for hundreds of meters.

All in all, Candidasa is a great place to go for a few days of relaxation.
