| Kuta - Tourist paradise |
| |
|
Kuta is a town in southern Bali,
Indonesia. A former fishing village, it was one of the first
towns on Bali to see substantial
tourist development, and as a beach resort remains one of
Indonesia's major tourist destinations. It is known internationally
for its long sandy beach, varied accommodation, many restaurants and
bars, and convenience to Bali's
Ngurah Rai Airport. |
| |
|
Kuta is now the center of an extensive tourist-oriented urban
area that merges into the neighboring towns. Legian,
to the north, is the commercial hub of Kuta and the site of many
restaurants and entertainment spots. Most of the area's big
beachfront hotels are in the southern section of Tuban. |
| |
|
Legian and
Seminyak are northern extensions of Kuta along Jl. Legian and
Jl. Basangkasa. They are somewhat quieter villages with
cottage-style accommodations, where many of the emigrated designers
and tourists live. Also to the north are
Petitenget,
Berawa,
Canggu, and
Seseh - new and quieter continuations of Kuta's beach. They are
easy to reach through
Abian Timbul or
Denpasar and Kerobokan. Several large hotels are located in this
area: the Oberoi Bali, the Intan Bali Village, the Legian in
Petitenget, the Dewata Beach and the Bali Sani Suites in Berawa. |
| |
|
To the south, Kuta Beach extends beyond the airport into
Jimbaran. |
| |
|
The Balinese
Provincial Government have taken the view that the preservation of
the Balinese culture, natural resources and wild life are of primary
importance in the development of the island. To this end they have
limited tourist development to the peninsula on the extreme southern
aspect of the island; Kuta beach is on the western side of this
peninsula and Sanur is on the east. |
| |
|
Located in southwestern Bali
just minutes from the airport lies Kuta. One of the world's most
famous beaches, Kuta first attracted Western surfers with its world
renowned surf break followed closely behind by sun worshipers and
party goers attracted to its wide stretches of white sandy beach and
budget accommodations, cheap restaurants and exciting night life. In
the last few years, Kuta has developed into one of the most dynamic
resort areas in Asia.
Offering something for every one - whether you are a family
traveling with children, single, or on your honeymooners, you will
find something to like about Kuta. Even if you stay in another part
of Bali, a visit to Kuta is a must, if you do not visit Kuta you
have not been to Bali. |
| |
|
Taxis are ubiquitous on the streets of Kuta and the best way of
getting around, especially at night. |
| |
|
Some taxi-drivers charge you more than you should pay, especially
when the meter is off. Be sure to bargain before you get in if it is
not a metered taxi. |
| |
|
The 'Blue bird taxi'
always uses a meter and will not overcharge you. If you have
complaints with a taxi-driver anyway you can call the taxi-center
and they will take measures to their own taxidrivers |
| |
|
There is a bit of envy from other taxi-companies because of the
good service from Blue bird. That is why you don't see Blue Bird
taxis at night near the disco's in Seminyak etc. They may pick a
fight with these people. |
| |
|
Surfing — Kuta is an well known destination among
surfing enthusiasts. Sandy beaches and a lack of dangerous rocks
or coral makes the areas an attraction for beginners and more
advanced surfers alike. |
| |
|
Enjoy the sunset. In the evenings plenty of people come to the
Kuta beach or seaside cafes to watch the wonderful sunset |
| |
|
There are a lot of shops of popular surf brands Volcom, Rip
Curl, Rusty selling surfing clothes, accessories and other staff.
|
| |
|
A lot of brands (such as Levi's, Polo, Rip Curl etc.) have
outlets on the island. |
| |
|
Kuta Square, Jl. Kartika Plaza. A shopping complex that
is so popular. There are small shops on both sides of the street
and a big Matahari department store, with a cheap and
utterly wacky collection of T-shirts on the 3rd floor. |
| |
|
Discovery shopping mall located across from Waterbom
Park on busy Jl. Kartika Plaza in Tuban is a big mall with plenty
of shops of international brands and cafes/restaurants with
wonderful seaview. |
| |
|
Be aware that if you buy things from people on the beach, you
will attract dozens more pushy vendors who'll try to make you feel
bad for not buying something from them also at a special "good
luck price" or "sunset price". The trick is to not look them in
the eye and respond to their offers with a stern "no thank you".
Always stay polite! |
| |
|
Beach-stall food is delicious, filling and very cheap. These are
dotted along Kuta and Legian beach beneath trees or awnings near the
road. |
| |
|
Every possible drink is available in Kuta - for a price. After
the bomb blasts security has been very tight at nightspots though.
|
| |
|
Most tourists drink bottled water . Larger bottles ( about 11 litres) are
available at a much cheaper rate. |
| |
|
It's also possible, and even cheaper, to buy "sterilised" water
at dedicated shops. These shops claim to use modern and effective
filtration/purification methods. Compared to the waste caused by
many plastic bottles, they are environemntally friendly as well as
much cheaper. |
| |
|
In the ocean it is prohibited to swim near the special flags,
that are put by beach staff near the places where the currents are
very strong. You are allowed to swim in the area between yellow-red
flags |
| |
| There are a lot of cheap guesthuoses on
Poppies 2, but you can find nicer places on the lanes between
Poppies 1 and 2. |
| |
|
Kuta has traveled from slave port to
stardom. This is where modern tourism in Bali all started and it’s
still the most happening place of all. |
| |
|
With the building of the airport in Bali, Kuta became a firmly
established part of the “Hippy Trail” and the Balinese responded
with smiles, homestays and other simple accommodation, and eateries.
From this small sleepy village with a white sand beach and good surf
grew the Kuta of today which extends 8-10 km northeast of the
airport and includes the villages of Tuban, the three villages of
Legian, Seminyak, Basangkasa and now Petitenget, with hotels,
resorts and restaurants virtually lining the length of the beach. |
| |
|
It’s been fashionable for many years now to decry Kuta for its
brashness, crassness and chaos, but the fact remains that the most
cosmopolitan and interesting people are to be found here. Like it or
not, this is 21st Century Bali, warts and all, without the
sanitisation of the more planned areas. |
| |
|
But even in central Kuta you can find quiet hotels and intimate
restaurants, and while the beach may be crowded in pockets, most of
it is virtually empty, even in peak season. This is where you will
find the widest range of accommodation and the best shopping, from
trinkets to well-priced designer wear to elegant homewares and
exquisitely crafted furniture. |
| |
|
You'll also find the best variety of eating and nightlife: The
beachside Hard Rock Café; the tired 24 hour Mamas; the noisy
unsophisticated drinking holes such as Sari Club and Flanagans in
Central Kuta; the earsplitting beachside 66 (Double Six) Disco; the
trendy bars and restaurants of Seminyak; and the air-conditioned
cigar bar of KuDeTa restaurant in Petitenget. |
| |
|
Chaos and traffic notwithstanding, the Kuta area has it all. As the
parts that make up the whole have their own distinct characteristics
we list them going north/west along the beach from the airport. The
divisions are not exact but close enough for our purposes. |
| |
|
Kuta beach is the most visited place by the tourists. Kuta is
located in Badung regency, about 20 - 30 minutes from Denpasar and
10 - 15 minutes from the Ngurah Rai Airport - Tuban. It has white
sands, great waves for surfers, amazing daily sunset view, suits for
sunbath, take the air, swimming, and various kind of activities. |
| |
|
Kuta is glorious region in Bali
and represent the heaven for foreign countries tourist. Kuta fulfill
all tourist requirement, like white sand, coast with its perfect
wave for the surfer, a lot of restaurant, cafeteria, and disco
making night life very impressing. Alongside walke a lot of kiosk
selling multifarious of tourist requirement, like clothes, cassette
ribbon, and ticket sold very cheap. Kuta is located 11 kilometer
side south Denpasar and reachable easily use the public
transportation. |
| |
|
If you walk to east, you'll found poppies alley (poppies I and
II). Inside the "poppies" there are hundreds of mini store that
sells handicrafts, clothing, accesorries, tattoo, internet rentals,
phone rentals, motorbike, car rentals, restaurants, bar, club,
fitness centre, and many more... it's almost what you need are
available here from low price to expensives one. Great place for
shopping! |
| |
|
Kuta beach not just our favorite place but also favorite place
for Penyu (turtle) to lay their eggs. The turtle and their eggs are
under protection by the Indonesian Law. Sometimes if you ever found
the turtle eggs just contact the securities (pecalang) near you
(they usually keep on patrol) and let them taking care of. The eggs
usually brought to the shelter for hatched. |
| |
|
Kuta beach are one of the favorite place for surfing, usually
there are big surfing events (local and international) held during
the summer holiday and patricipated by the local surfer and
international. |
| |
|
When august 17th arrived, there will be various activities held
to commemorating the Indonesian Independence Day such as Areca
Climbing contest (Panjat Pinang), Sack Run contest (lari karung),
Eating Chips contest (makan krupuk), and many more... Many
foreigners are enjoy this contest and usually the team mates with
the locals to participate. |
| |
|
Sometimes Kuta are also visited by world wide artists, movie
star, athletes and entertainment celebrities. |
